The Foundation for Young Musicians (FYM), a registered charity, has been supporting CYM by raising funds for bursaries and special projects since 1990. FYM’s Bursary Fund enables families who are struggling financially to receive help with their fees.

Christopher Warren-Green (Chairman)
British conductor Christopher Warren-Green is Music Director of the London Chamber Orchestra in the UK and the Charlotte Symphony in North Carolina.
2021/22 marks the final season as Warren-Green’s tenure as the Music Director of Charlotte Symphony, when he will step down after 12 years at the helm becoming the Conductor Laureate whilst remaining as Artistic Advisor.
Over the last 30 years he has conducted eminent orchestras around the world, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Minnesota Orchestra, Detroit, Houston, St Louis, Toronto, Milwaukee, Seattle and Vancouver symphony orchestras, and the National Symphony Orchestra Washington D.C. In Europe,he has conducted Orchestre National de Belgique, Zürcher Kammerorchester, RTÉ Symphony and Iceland Symphony Orchestra. In West Asia he has worked with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon, Singapore, Sapporo and KBS symphony orchestras. In the UK, he has worked with the Philharmonia, London Philharmonic, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic and Royal Scottish National orchestras.
Dedicated to the promotion of new works and passionate about music education, Warren-Green plays a key role in LCO Music Junction, a ground-breaking project which brings together children in the UK from different backgrounds by using music as a medium to foster mutual empathy and collaboration.
In addition to his international commitments, he has been invited to conduct at the wedding services of TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor, in 2005, TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at Westminster Abbey in 2011 and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in 2018. He conducted the London Chamber Orchestra on the occasion of HM The Queen’s 80th birthday and the Philharmonia Orchestra for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday concert at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, as well as HRH The Prince of Wales’ 60th birthday concert in Buckingham Palace.
A violinist by training, Warren-Green began his career at the age of 21 as concertmaster of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, followed by the Philharmonia Orchestra under Ricardo Muti aged 25 and later concertmaster of the Academy of St Martin in the Fields under Sir Neville Marriner. As a soloist he has recorded Mozart, Vivaldi and Mendelssohn violin concerti, and appeared as soloist extensively in Europe most notably with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the Fields in the Berlin Philharmonie.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, having been a Professor there for eight years, and has appeared and presented numerous times on television and radio, most notably for the BBC Proms.
As a conductor he has recorded extensively for Sony, Philips, Virgin EMI, Chandos, Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, and records with the London Chamber Orchestra for Signum Classics.

Hubert Best
Hubert won the Hubert Kiver organ prize at the Royal Academy of Music, became Organist and Master of the Choristers at Birmingham Cathedral, travelled in an ancient Land Rover across Europe to do the same at Erlöserkirche in the Old City of Jerusalem while driving the Land Rover between remote monasteries around the middle east, exploring Byzantine chant. After that he changed to a bicycle and practised as a solicitor in London and an advocate in Stockholm with a practice ranging from Rachmaninov’s early Russian copyrights and the Beatles’ 1964 concert in Washington DC to the Athens and Beijing Olympic Games, and was also a trustee of the London Chamber Orchestra and the Buskaid Soweto String Ensemble, and a trustee and chairman of the Philharmonia Orchestra’s finance committee.
Geoffrey Harniess
Geoffrey was born in Lincolnshire and began playing the cornet in the local brass band. He studied at the Colchester Institute, the Royal Academy of Music, and the National Centre for Orchestral Studies. As a freelance trumpet player he performed in all types of orchestral music as well as opera, theatre and brass chamber music, travelling all over Europe and to the US and Japan. From 2002 until 2023 he worked at CYM as Head of Brass, Curriculum Manager and then Head of CYM. He co-founded the LYWB with Francesca Hanley and Tony Maloney and frequently coaches with the LSSO. He is a Fellow of the Guildhall School and also an examiner and consultant for the ABRSM.
Ruth Jenkins
Currently company secretary for her own bespoke furniture making business which Ruth runs with her husband, Ruth is a trained nurse, midwife and registered family planning nurse but no longer practising in those professions. Ruth has two grown up children who were at CYM for eleven years each and who were also members of both the LYWB and LSSO.
Ruth was vice chair of the Friends of CYM for many years as well as canteen purchaser. Ruth is a school governor at Dalmain Primary school in Forest Hill and chair of a Scout Group in Forest Hill.
Nick Lawson
Nick is a chartered accountant and freelance Finance Director. He trained and practiced with Spicer and Oppenheim and Touche Ross in London before spending 8 years with Inchcape plc in the motors division. Since 2000 he has worked predominantly with early stage businesses as well as having been a school governor and treasurer to various charities. He is a founder and director of Vocality Singing, a Surrey based business that promotes choral singing in local communities.
Marcus Price
Marcus has worked in a number of organisations in a 20 year career in the City of London, including the Bank of England and Lloyds Banking Group.
He has worked in the fields of strategy, risk and P&L management. Alongside his professional life, Marcus is passionate about supporting social enterprises that provide opportunities for the disadvantaged and is a Trustee of FYM (City of London) and a Director of Mow & Grow (Norwich).
