Gamelan at CYM
In partnership with the Southbank Centre CYM is able to offer students the opportunity to explore ensemble music-making on the Javanese gamelan.
Gongs, drums and metallophones make up this beautiful percussion ensemble from Indonesia. The course is led by expert tutor Andy Channing and students create their own pieces as well as studying a variety of gamelan styles.
Gamelan music is generally learnt and performed by ear and is suitable for all instrumentalists and singers. It is an excellent way for first study pianists in particular to access regular ensemble playing.
The gamelan class is available as an Ensemble Only option and takes place at the Royal Festival Hall.
